Two fencers of Odisha created history by winning medals for the first time in the Senior National Championship, the 31st edition of which was held at Delhi Public School in Rudrapur, Uttarakahand from 19 to 21 March, 2021. Nitin Swain and Sahil Kumbhar won the two medals today.

Swain won silver medal in mens epee event while Kumbhar bagged bronze in mens foil event. Both Swain and Kumbhar are from Balangir. In fact, a five-member squad from Balanagir represented Odisha in the National championship.

Other three were: Bibekananda Patel, Soudamini Kandi and Snigdharani Rath. They were accompanied by coaches Sukant Seth and Karishma Raut.
