Tokyo Pralimpics: Shooters, shuttlers bag 4 medals
04 Sep 2021

Shooters and shuttlers added four medals to the tally of India at the 16th Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo today. Manish Narwal and Singhraj Adana bagged gold and silver respectively in the P4 mixed 50m pistol SH1 event, while Pramod Bhagat and Manoj Sarkar secured gold and bronze respectively in mens singles SL3 badminton competition.

With these four medals, India jumped to the 26th position in the medal tally with a total of 17 medals, which include four gold, seven silver and six bronze. This is the best for India in a single edition of the Paralympic Games. India had won four medals at Rio 2016 and four at the 1984 Paralympics. China continued to lead the tally with 93 gold, 57 silver and 50 bronze for a total of 200 medals.

Narwal shot a Paralympic record of 218.2 while Singhraj, with 216.7, won his second medal at the ongoing Games. He earlier won bronze in the mens 10m Air Pistol SH1 event. Singhraj also became the second Indian after Lekhara to win multiple medals at these Games.
