  Odisha CM felicitates Pramod Bhagat with Rs 6 crores

Odisha para-badminton sensation and reigning world champion Parmod reaped befitting harvest of his gold medal triumph at the Tokhyo Paralympic Games when Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik felicitated hime with a cash award of Rs 6 crores at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar today. He was also offered a Group A level government job.

Congratulating Bhagat, Chief Minister Patnaik said, “Your victory was a proud moment for the entire nation and will remain forever so. You have truly redefined how sports can uplift and empower lives. You have inspired a generation of sportspersons and para sportspersons to create their own destiny. I wish you all the very best for greater glories. We will continue to support you in your journey ahead.”

 

Bhagat expressed his gratitude towards Chief Minister for the continuous support and motivation in his Olympic journey. Odisha Sports & Youth Services Minister Tusharkanti Behera, Hockey Promotion Council Chairman Dilip Tirkey, Secretary to Chief Minister V K Pandian, Sports and Youth Services Department Secretary R Vineel Krishna were present in the ceremony.

Earlier in the day, Bhagat was given a hero’s welcome on his arrival at the Biju Patnaik International airport by the State Government. Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera, Attabira MLA Snehangini Chhuria, Olympian Dilip Tirkey and Secretary Vineel Krishna received him at the airport.

Bhagat scripted history, winning the first Paralympic badminton gold medal for India, beating Daniel Bethell of Great Britain in the men’s singles SL3 final earlier on September 4. This was the first ever gold medal for Odisha in Olympic or Paralympic Games.
