  Orissa hails Abhinav Bindra

ORISSA Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced a cash award of Rs 5 lakh for ace shooter Abhinav Bindra, who became the first Indian to win an individual gold in Olympic Games. The Chief Minister along with three-time hockey Olympian Dilip Tirkey, his 2000 Sydney Olympic teammate Lazrus Barla, former India captain Prabodh Tirkey, ace woman hurdler Anuradha Biswal and former all-India Police shooting champion Arabinda Mitra congratulated Bindra for the historic success and hoped that shooting gold at Beijing would bring in a welcome change in the fortune of sports in the country. Sportspersons from different disciplines celebrated Bindra``s triumph by bursting crackers and bringing out congratulatory banners in twin cities, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
