  OWL 2022: Odisha Police emerge champions

Star studded Odisha Police emerged champions in the Odisha Women League (OWL) 2022, which concluded in Bhubaneswar today. Led by India forward Pyari Xaxa, Odisha Police topped the league table with 28 points, winning nine out of their 10 matches, scoring 45 goals and conceding only two. They also qualified for the next edition of the Indian Womens League (IWL).

Staying unbeaten throughout the tournament, Odisha Police could not win their penultimate match, which ended in a goalless draw against Sports Odisha. International Jabamani Tudu was the top scorer for Odisha Police, netting as many as 19 goals.

Sports Odisha finished runners-up with 20 points with six wins, two defeates and two draws. East Coast Railway grabbed the third position with 19 points with six wins, three losses and one draw. Rising Student Club, SAI Training Centre and Odisha Government Press Club finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

Football Association of Odisha (FAO) organised the tournament, in association with the Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Odisha at Kalinga Stadium and Capital High School Ground in Bhubaneswar from February 12.

 

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik graced the OWL match between Sports Odisha and Rising Student Club at Kalinga Stadium on February 21. He was accompanied by his Private Secretary V Karthikeyan Pandian and Sports Secretary R Vineel Krishna.

February 12
(Match 1, Kalinga Stadium): Odisha Police (Pyari Xaxa 52nd, 82nd, 92nd; Jabamani Tudu 43rd, 47th) beat Sports Odisha 5-0.
February 12 (Match 2, Kalinga Stadium): East Coast Railway (Lahari Mangaraj 25th, 39th; Purnima Rao 36th, Tara Khaton 44th, Manisa Panna 70th) beat OGP Club 5-0.
