Odisha bagged three gold medals on the fifth and last day of the 37th National Junior Athletics Championships at SAI Athletics Stadium in Guwahati, Assam today. The 39-member Odisha squad ended its campaign with a total of 13 medals, which included nine gold, three silver and one bronze.
The three gold medals on the final day were secured by Laxmipriya Kisan, Ani Salbam and Susmita Tigga. A trainee of Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics High Performance Centre, Laxmipriya Kisan won the gold in U-18 girls 800 metre run, clocking 2 minute 15.08 seconds. She managed to surpass her Youth Nationals timing of 2:16.48s, where she had won a silver medal.
Ani Salbam bagged the gold medal in U-14 boys 600 metre run with a timing of 1 minute 24.01 seconds. This was the first National medal for Salbam, who also trains at Bhubaneswar-based Athletics High Performance Centre.
