  KIYG 2022: Lifters Jyoshna, Priteesmita win medals

Odisha started weightlifting campaign on a successful note in the 4th Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2022, bagging two medals in girls 40kg weight category at the Basketball Complex in Indore, Madhya Pradesh today. The two medals include one silver and one bronze.

Jyoshna Sabar won the silver medal, lifting 53kg in snatch and 65kg in clean & jerk for a total lift of 118kg. Priteesmita Bhoi captured the bronze medal in the same weight category with a total lift of 117kg, which included 53kg in snatch and 64kg in clean & jerk.

Both Jyoshna and Priteesmita are trainees of Odisha Weightlifting High Performance Centre, which is located at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. A 12-member weightlifting squad, featuring five boys and seven girls, is representing Odisha in the Khelo India Youth Games.

 

Vinatai Aher of Maharashtra won the gold medal in the 40 kg category also with a Youth Games Record. Daughter of a farmer from Nashik, Vinatai lifted a total of 129 kg that included 57 kg in snatch and 72 kg in clean and jerk.

The two medals in weightlifting increased the total number of medals for Odisha to 22 and helped the State maintain the fifth place in the medal tally. The 22 medals include nine gold, five silver and eight bronze.
