  Tennis: CS Triple crown for Sai Swastik Mohanty

Odisha boy Sai Swastik Mohanty clinched a morale-boosting treble by winning three titles in the MOSF-AITA-OTA U-12 & U-14 Championships Series Tennis Tournament at Kalinga Stadium Tennis Complex in Bhubaneswar today. Cuttack youngster Sai won the three titles in U-14 singles, doubles and U-12 singles events.

In U-12 boys singles final, Sai defeated Ronnie Vijay Kumar (Tamil Nadu) 6-4, 6-0. He won the U-14 singles final, beating State-mate Mayank Modi 6-2, 6-4. Sai claimed the U-14 doubles crown, partnering with Aniket Sahoo (Odisha).

 

The Odisha duo prevailed over West Bengal opponents Shahbaaz Singh  Sanghera and Swapneel Ghosh 6-0, 6-2 in the final match. Sai Swastik and Ronnie Vijay Kumar reached the U-12 boys singles final, defeating Aahaan Mishra (Odisha) 6-3, 6-1 and Swapneel Ghosh (WB) 6-3, 6-3 respectively.

Earlier in U-14 boys singles semifinal, Mayank Modi beat Abhivadya Mishra (Karnataka) 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), while Sai Swastik Mohanty got the better of Aniket Sahoo (Odisha) 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

Andhra Pradesh girl T Janhavi bagged a doubles by emerging champion in U-14 and U-12 singles event. She beat Padma Priya Ramesh (Karnataka) 6-4, 6-0 in U-12 final and Drimi Biswas (WB) in U-14 summit clash.

Surya Pratap Naik (Odisha) won the U-12 boys doubles crown with Ishaayu P Desai (Karnataka) as his partner. They beat Odisha-Assam combination of Darsh Modi and Naman Borah in the final 6-2, 6-0.

The U-14 gilrs doubles title was claimed by West Bengal pair of Sudiksha M Banerjee and Shazfa Wania Sk, who prevailed over another West Bengal duo of Ashmita Bhowmik and Faizah Shah 6-0, 6-4 in the final match.

Title winners and runner-up in each event gained 25 and 20 AITA ranking points respectively. The five-day tournament was organised by newly formed Mission Olympics Sports Foundation (MOSF), under the auspices of Odisha Tennis Association (OTA) and All India Tennis Association (AITA).

OTA Joint-Secretary Sanjeev Panda gave away the trophies in presence of OTA Administrative officer Sambit Pattnaik, Tournament Director Manoj Das, Tournament Referee Jatin Batsya and MOSF Trustee Santosh Mallik.

According to MOSF Trustee Manas Ranjan Samal said the trust is aiming to conduct atleast 10 AITA tournaments in a year which will help our players to collect maximum ranking points and improve their ranking in all India circuit.
