  Mongia, Dhar appointed head coaches of Odisha cricket teams

Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) today appointed former India international cricketers Dinesh Mongia and Rumeli Dhar as the head coach of the State Senior Men and Women cricket teams for the season 2023-24.

According to a press release from OCA, the decisions to appoint both the head coaches as well as selectors for the state teams were taken by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the State body at its meeting today at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack.

OCA received CVs of various candidates for the post of head coach of Senior Men and Women Teams and the Member of Selection Committees for Senior Men, Junior Men and Women basing on the employment advertisement placed in the OCA website.

All the candidates went through the interview process done by CAC. As per the recommendation of the CAC, Mongia and Dhar were appointed as the head coach of State Senior Men and Women seam respectively.
 

Mongia played 57 ODIs for India scoring 1,230 runs with an average of 27.95 including four half centuries and a century. He picked 14 wickets for India as well. A left-hand batter and left-arm orthodox bowler, Mongia played first-class cricket for Punjab.

Thirty-nine-year-old Dhar played 78 ODIs and 18 T20Is for India between 2003 and 2018. She has also appeared in four Test matches. Right-hand batter and right-arm medium-pacer, Dhar played domestic cricket for Bengal, Air India, Railways, Rajasthan, Assam and Delhi.

Apart from the head coaches, OCA appoints the following candidates as members of State Senior Men, Junior Men and Women Selection Committees. Amiya Ray and Pravanjan Mullick were named as chairman of the Senior Men and Junior Men selection committee respectively.

SELECTION COMMITTEES:

Senior Men: Amiya Ray (Chairman), Sourajit Mohapatra (Member), Subit Biswal (Member).
Junior Men: Pravanjan Mullick (Chairman), Niranjan Behera (Member), Subhrajit Sahoo (Member).
Women: Rashmita Mohanty (Chairperson), Sasmita Pattnaik (Member), Madhusmita Mohapatra (Member), Gangotri Behera (Member), Sudhanshubala Sahoo (Member).
