  Sports Odisha emerge FAO Super Cup champions

Sports Odisha emerged champions in the FAO Super Cup Football Tournament, defeating Sunrise Club 1-0 in the final at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack today. Substitute Jagannath Tudu scored the all-important goal in the 77th minute.

Sports Odisha goalkeeper Sanjay Hemberm was adjudged as the player of the match. He received a cash award of Rs 10,000. The champion side received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, while the runners-up team took home Rs 50,000.

 

Cuttack Mayor Subhash Singh was the chief guest at the presentation ceremony. Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra and Odisha Cricket Association secretary Sanjay Behera were guest of honour. Cash prizes of FAO First and Second Division League were handed over at the closing ceremony.

Also present on the occasion were; Football Association of Odisha (FAO) president Debashish Samantaray, secretary Asirbad Behera and other office-bearers of the State body.

FAO Super Cup was  organized by Football Association of Odisha (FAO) from 24 August 2023. Top eight teams of FAO First Division League competed in the Super Cup.

FAO Super Cup:
Champions: Sports Odisha (Rs 1,00,000). Runners-up: Sunrise Club (Rs 50,000).
FAO Diamond League: Champions Sunrise Club Rs 1,00,000. FAO Gold League: Champions Rising Star Club Rs 75,000. FAO Sillver League: Champions Independent Club Rs 50,000. FAO Second Division League: Champions Junior Gallant Club Rs 25,000. Runners-up Young Association FC, Choudwar Rs 15,000.

FAO League Individual Awards: Best Goalkeeper Ravi Deula Pidia (Rising Star Club). Best Defender: Pintu Samal (Sports Odisha). Best Mid-fielder: Gaurav Negi (Radha Raman Club). Best Forward: Dinabandu Das (Young Utkal Club). Players of the Tournament: Gorachand Marandi (Sunrise Club).

RESULTS:

August 24 (QF-1): Radha Raman Club (Tophan Nayak 30, Binay Kisan 45+1, Biki Sethi 89) beat Kishore Club 3-0.
August 24 (QF-2): Sports Odisha (Pintu Samal 45+2-P, Jagannath Tudu 66, 89) beat Jay Durga Club (Sk Nawazish Noor 67) 3-1.
August 25 (QF-3): Sunrise Club (Finto 75) beat Independent Club 1-0.
August 25 (QF-4): Rising Star Club (Hari Kathayat 2, Bikash Chandra Padhihary 19, 75, Jitu Muduli 41, Madhu Jani 58) drew with Young Utkal Club (Dinabandhu Das 43+3, 48-P, 68-P, 88-P, Bijay Kumar Barik 82) 5-5. Shootout: Rising Star (Bijay Singh, Abinash Muduli, Jitu Muduli, Madhu Jani) beat Young Utkal (Bikash Kumar Sahoo, Babul Kumar Rout) 4-2.

August 27 (SF-1): Sunrise Club (Selwyn Frazier Miranda 39) drew with Radharaman Club (Spirav Ranjam Hanuman 90-P) 1-1. Shootout: Sunrise (Jamir Oram, Selwyn Frazier Miranda, Finto, Ashanta Kerketta, Sanjib Oram) beat Radharaman (Chandrakanta Das, Binay Kisan, Gaurav Negi, Tophan Nayak) 5-4.
August 27 (SF-2): Sports Odisha (Raisen Tudu 82) drew with Rising Star Club (Abinash Muduli 49) 1-1. Shootout: Sports Odisha (Pintu Samal, D Sanjay, Prasanta Srihari, Suraj Naik) beat Risng Star (Bikash Chandra Padhihary, Abinash Muduli, Madhu Jani) 4-3.
August 30 (Final): Sports Odisha (Jagannath Tudu) beat Sunrise Club 1-0. PoM: Sanjay Hemberm (Sports Odisha).
