  Koustuv Dash wins All Odisha school chess title

Bhubaneswar boy Koustuv Dash of St Xaviers High School, Kedargouri won the title in the All Odisha School Chess Championship, which was organised by All Odisha Chess Assciation (AOCA) at SoA University, Bhubaneswar on 8 and 9 September 2023.

Koustuv scored 8.5 points in the nine-round rapid-format tournament to take home the champion trophy and a cash prize of Rs 10,000. Tanmay Talin Behera (8 points) of Mothers Public School, Bhubaneswar and Jyotshnav Talukdar (8 points) of Kendriya Vidyalaya No 3, Bhubaneswar bagged the second and third prize of Rs 8,000 and Rs 6,000 respectively.

A total of 208 players from 109 schools participated in the two-day tournament. State Police ADG Dayal Gangwar was the chief guest at the valedictory function. SoA University Health Services Director Prof Ashok Kumar Mohapatra, AOCA Secretary, Dababrata Bhatta, Retired IAS officer Madhusudan Padhi, KT Global School Principal, Dr D P Khare and SOA University Dean Prof Jyoti Ranjan Das were present on the occasion as guests.

 

The tournament was conducted by Chief Arbiter Suresh Chandra Sahoo along with fellow international arbiters Tapas Kumar Mohanty, Santosh Kumar Mohapatra, Jyoti Shankar Nanda, national arbiters Bishnu Prasad Purohit, Prasanna Kumar Nayak, Swarupmayee Dash and Susobhit Das.

Pratyush Nayak (7 pts), Stewart School, Cuttack, 7. Debarpit Mishra (7 pts), Kendriya Vidyalaya, No 1, Bhubaneswar, 8. Santanu Baral (7 pts), Prashanti International School Puri, 9. Ayush Aryan Mohapatra (7 pts), Kendriya Vidyalaya, Cuttack, 10. Santanu Kumar Dash (7 pts), Ravindra Vidya Niketan, Keonjhar.
