Odisha girl Jyoshna Sabar bagged two bronze medals in youth 40kg category of the Asian Junior & Youth Weightlifting Championship, which commenced at Goutam Buddha University in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh today. India is hosting the championship for the first time.
A total number of 220 athletes in both Youth and junior categories from 18 Asian nations are participating in this championship.
Cadet of Odisha-Tenvic Weightlifting High Performance Centre, Bhubaneswar, Jyoshna won one bronze in snatch with a lift of 55kg and the other in overall, lifting a total of 119 kg. In clean & jerk, she lifted 64kg.
This was the fourth international medal for 15-year-old Jyoshna, who belongs to Pekata village of Gajapati district. She had won overall bronze and snatch silver at World Youth Championship 2023 in Durrest, Albania and gold at the Commonwealth Championship 2023 in Noida, UP.
Two lifters from Odisha are representing Indian in the ongoing Asian championship. Mina Santa, the other Odisha lifter, will compete in junior girls category.
