Odisha suffered a five-wicket defeat against Goa in their fifth and last Group-D match of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy U-19 Mens Cricket Tournament at CAP Ground-3 in Puducherry today. This was the second defeat for Odisha, who had also started their campaign with a three-wicket loss against Chhattisgarh.

The two defeats cost Odisha dear as they failed to qualify for the knock-out stage, despite winning three matches in a row in between. After losing their opening match, Odisha beat Arunachal Pradesh by seven wickets, Saurashtra by nine runs and Rajasthan by seven wickets. Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan qualified for the pre-quarterfinals from Group D.

Led by stumper-batter Aashirwad Swain, the 16-member Odisha team was accompanied by seven support staff, including three coaches and one mentor. Among the players, Karan Mohapatra, Soubhagya Ojha and Rohit K Pradhan did not get opportunity to play any match, while one player failed miserably despite playing all five matches.

Shreyansh Bhardwaj was most successful batter with a total contribution of 255 runs, including one century, while left-arm spinner Sayed Tufayl Ahmad was most successful bowler, bagging a total of 10 wickets, including a career-best haul of five for eight.
