  National Games: Odisha win gold, bronze in rugby

Odisha achieved remarkable success in rugby sevens with the State women team clinching the coveted gold medal and the men team settling for bronze medal in the 37th National Games at the Athletics Stadium in Bambolim, Goa today.

Odisha women team retained the titles, defeating Bihar in the final match 12-7. Earlier in the semifinals, Odisha women hammered West Bengal 37-0. Led by Hupi Majhi, Odisha women emerged Pool-A toppers, trouncing host Goa 52-0, Bihar 27-5 and Kerala 25-0 to storm into quarterfinals where they mauled Karnataka 64-0.

 

Odisha men received the bronze medal by getting the better of West Bengal 10-0 today. Odisha settled for bronze medal after losing to Maharashtra in the semifinals 14-19. They reached the last-four stage by defeating Bihar Poo-A league, Odisha beat Kerala 15-12, Goa 14-5 and lost to Haryana 10-17.
