Ranji Trophy: Senapati slams 277; Odisha get 3 points
15 Jan 2024

A monumental knock of 277 by former captain Subhranshu Senapati and noteworthy performances by debutant Harshit Rathod, stumper Rajesh Dhuper and pacer Sunil Kumar Roul helped Odisha secure three points by virtue of taking first-inning lead against Madhya Pradesh in their Elite Group-D Ranji Trophy match, which ended in a draw at Emerald High School Ground in Indore today.

Senapati created history by scoring the second highest individual score of 277 (487 balls, 19x4, 11x6) for Odisha in Ranji Trophy after 300 not out by Shiv Sunder Das. He first steadied the ship with a 118-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Dhuper, who hit a responsible half-century (51 off 141 balls, 6x4, 1x6).

Senapati and debutant Rathod, who came in to bat at number 10, then turned the course of the match with a record-breaking partnership of 238 runs for the ninth wicket (highest for Odisha).

Odisha registered a total of 498, in reply to which MP were bowled out for 318 with Sunil Kumar Roul being the peak of the bowlers with a five-wicket haul. After conceding a first-innings lead of 180 runs and forced to follow on, Madhya Pradesh made 291 for four and declared their second innings.

Chasing a target of 112 runs to win, with not many overs to spare, Odisha were 38 for one in the second innings when the match ended in a draw. Senapati received the Man of the Match award from Match Referee Col Sanjai Verma.
