  Odisha swimmer Mannata wins first international medal

Odisha swimming sensation Mannata Mishra won her first international medal with a silver in womens 200m breaststroke event at the 1st BIMSTEC Aquatics Championships 2024 at Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Swimming Pool Complex in New Delhi today. Bhubaneswar girl Mannata clocked 2:46.79.

Indian secured the top two positions in the event with Thanya Shadakshari bagging the gold medal with a time of 2:42.94. Sri Lankan Neoma Thevmini Kahandawa claimed the bronze medal, clocking 2:52.68.

A total of 268 athletes from seven BIMSTEC member countries are participating in swimming, diving and water polo for U-20 men & women categories of the three-day championships. A total of 39 medals will be given out across three sporting events along with a total of nine trophies that will be at stake.

Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is an initiative of India, promoting regional unity and cooperation in the Bay of Bengal region by harnessing the power of sports and the energy of the region`s youth.
