Five competitors from Odisha bagged a total of five medals for India in the 7th South Asian Karate Championship, which was held at Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal on 2 and 3 December 2023. The five medals include two gold, two silver and one bronze.

Among the Odisha karatekas, Suromita Sinha and Suman Sekhar Das won one gold medal each in U-21 female individual kata and U-21 male individual below 84kg kumite events respectively. Loma Swain secured one silver medal in female senior below 50kg individual kumite.

Valena Valentina and Suromita Sinha were members of the Indian team that claimed the silver medal in female senior team kata. The bronze medal was captured by Subhakanta Biswal in individual male junior above 76kg kumite.

Odisha State Karate-do Association congratulated the medal winners and thanked the Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Odisha for bearing all expenses of the State karatekas.
