  Badamundi wins KT Global Open FIDE Rating Tournament

Tapan Badamundi from Gajapati district emerged champion in the 12th KT Global All Odisha Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament, which was organised by KT Global School, under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association and All India Chess Federation at KT Global School in Barunei, Khordha from 11 to 15 April, 2024.

Student of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Badamundi scored 8.5 points out of a possible nine to bag the winner trophy and a cash prize of Rs 20,000. Harshit Ranjan Sahu (Cuttack, 8.5 points) and Shrihan Sabat (Berhampur, 7 points) claimed the first and second runner-up prizes of Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

Rotarian Yagyansis Mohapatra graced the prize distribution ceremony as chief guest. A total of 195 players from 21 districts participated in the nine-round tournament. Jyoti Shankar Nanda and Tapas Kumar Mohanty were the chief arbiter and deputy chief arbiter respectively.

Manindra Karjee (Gajapati, 7), 6. Pratyush Mohapatra (Bhubaneswar, 7), 7. Suraj Kumar Moharana (Bhubaneswar, 6.5), 8. Pratyush Nayak (Cuttack, 6.5), 9. Sattwik Swain (Bhubaneswar, 6.5), 10. TJVK Srikanth (Andhra Pradesh, 6.5).
