  5th KIUG 2025: Odisha universities bag 5 medals on Day-5

Three universities of Odisha won five medals (3 gold and 2 bronze) on the 5th day of the 5th Khelo India University Games at seven cities in Rajasthan today. With the addition of the four medals, the tally of the Odisha universities rose to 20. The 20 medals feature 7 gold, 3 silver, 10 bronze.

International swimmer Pratyasa Ray emerged as the most successful Odisha competitor at the KIUG 2025, bagging all five medals for Utkal University, the oldest of the State. She ended her campaign today with another gold in 50m backstroke (31.13s) in Jaipur. She earlier captured one gold each in 100m and 200m backstroke, one silver in 200m freestyle and one bronze in 400m freestyle.

Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT Deemed to be University) added two gold and one bronze today to increase its total to 13 medals (4 gold, 1 silver, 8 bronze). Weightlifter Maganti Keerthi clinched other gold medal of the day for KIIT in the womens 86 kg category with a total lift of 186 kg.

 

KIIT men and women rugby teams, featuring 12 players each, won the gold medals without losing any match. In the finals, KIIT men beat Chandigarh University 15-10, while KIIT women also prevailed over Chandigarh University 17-5. 

Woman swimmer Divyanka Dibyajyoti Pradhan won the most number of six medals for KIIT, including one bronze today in 100m breaststroke, clocking 1:18.07 seconds. Earlier, Divyanka claimed one silver in 50m breastroke and one bronze each in 200m breaststroke, 200m butterfly, 4x200m freestyle relay and 4x100m medley relay.

KIIT women swimmers also received the first runners-up trophy with a total of 10 medals, including one gold, one silver and eight bronze. Rama Devi Women University won its first medal today with swimmer Ayushree Dutta picking up the bronze in women 1500m freestyle with a time of 20:09.12s.

Among the Odisha universities, KIIT bagged the most number of 13 medals (4 gold, 1 silver, 8 bronze). KIIT stood eighth in the overall medal tally, while Utkal Uiversity occupied the 10th spot with a total of five medal (3 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze). Berhampur University and Rama Devi Women University contributed one silver and one bronze medal respectively to the Odisha tally.

Odisha woman cyclist Barsarani Barik made Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) proud by winning one individual and two team gold medals. A national medallist, Barsarani won the individual gold in 500m time trial, clocking 38.535 seconds. She also played instrumental role in GNDU grabbing both the team sprint and team pursuit gold medals.

KIIT WOMEN RUGBY TEAM: Mama Naik, Tarulata Naik, Puspanjali Bhoi, Nirmalya Rout, Ritu Majhi, Barsa Rani Majhi, Ranjita Naik, Geetarani Sai, Sarita Bariha, Manisha Majhi, Rashmi Xalxo, Swapnarani Sing.
