  SM Ali Trophy: Biplab, Rajesh guide Odisha to first win

Fine allround performance by captain Biplab Samantray and a five-wicket haul by pacer Rajesh Mohanty guided Odisha Senior Men cricket team to a 27-run win against Chhattisgarh in their elite Group-A match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 Tournament at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh today.

This was the first win in four matches for Odisha, who earlier suffered a hat-trick of defeats, losing their first three matches against Kerala, Andhra and Vidarbha. Put into bat, Odisha were in dire straits, losing five wickets with only 35 runs on the board.

Captain Samantray rescued the team with a 41-ball 61, which featured four boundaries and as many sixes. His 78-run partnership with Subham Satrujit helped Odisha compile a modest total of 135 for eight. Satrujit hit a cameo 27 with the help of three sixes.
 

In reply, Chhattisgarh were bowled out for 108. Rajesh Mohanty destroyed the Chattisgarh batting line-up, scalping five wickets for 21 runs. Skipper Samantray also shone with the ball, picking up two wickets 23 runs. Odisha will next meet Railway on December 4.
