  KIUG 2025: KIIT top Odisha tally with 21 medals

Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), the Bhubaneswar-based  Deemed to be University, emerged as the best among Odisha universities, bagging a total of 21 medals in the 5th Khelo India University Games in Jaipur, Rajasthan today. With 10 gold, three Silver and eight bronze medals in its kitty, KIIT secured seventh position among 222 participating universities in the final medal tally.

Four universities from Odisha bagged a total of 28 medals  in the KIUG 2025. The 13 medals included eight gold, five silver and 10 bronze. Among other three medal-winning Odisha universities, Utkal University secured 18th position with five medals (3 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze), all of which were bagged by ace swimmer Pratyasa Ray. Berhampur University and Rama Devi Womens University claimed one silver and one bronze each through weightlifter Rinki Nayak and swimmer Ayushree Dutta respectively.

 

Chandigarh University retained the top spot in the medal tally with 67 medals, which include 42 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze. Lovely Professional University (32 gold, 24 silver, 22 bronze) and Guru Nanak Dev University (32 gold, 22 silver, 18 bronze) finished second and third with 78 and 72 medals respectively.

KIIT captured five medals (four gold and one silver) in athletics, tennis and volleyball on the penultimate day of the KIUG 2025, which would officially conclude with the closing ceremony tomorrow. KIIT mens tennis team clinched the gold medal, defeating Manipal University in the final. The five-member tennis team featured Kabir Hans, Debasis Sahoo, Pratyush Mohanty, Anshuman Singh and Shubham Sarangi.

In athletics, KIIT claimed three gold medals with meet records at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Samardeep Singh Gill set a meet record with a throw of 19.42m to claim the gold in mens shot put. Isha Negi also captured gold in the womens heptathlon, securing 4,857 points to set a new meet record.

KIIT mens 4×100m relay team, consisting of Olympian Animesh Kujur, along with Abhay Singh, Dondapati Mrutyam Jayaram and Mahendra Santa, put up another record-breaking effort to win gold with a time of 40.09 seconds.

The 14-member KIIT womens volleyball team secured silver medal after a hard-fought five-set contest against Lovely Professional University, narrowly falling short in the decisive final set in Kota.

The KIIT volleyball team was represented by Nipa Barad, Ananya Singh, Piyali Dhar, Arati Heprika, Singh Sindhu, Suchismita Dinda, Asha Mundary, Sanchari Sunil Bhowate, Kumari Varsha, Madhumita Saha, Pathlavath Sujatha, Shibani Priyadarshini, Sarmistha Banik, Gamit Minalkumari Sohanbhai.
