Three from Odisha selected for Track Asia Cup Cycling
23 Jan 2026

Three renowned cyclists Swasti from Odisha have been selected to represent India in the Asia Cup Track Cycling Championship 2026, which is set to be held at TNPESU Velodrome in Chennai, India, from January 29 to 31. The trio includes, Swasti Singh, Barsarani Barik and Dinesh Kumar.

Top women cyclists Swasti and Barsa will compete in endurance and sprint events respectively. Dinesh, who belongs to Rourkela, but represents Air Force in National championships, will participate in men elite endurance events.

Elite and junior cyclists from more than 18 Asian nations including Iran, China, UAE, and Singapore are expected to participate in this prestigious UCI Class 1 event. This is the first time such an international cycling event will be held outside Delhi.

The competition will feature various track events, such as keirin, sprint, team sprint, individual pursuit, team pursuit, and omnium for both men and women. Both Swasti and Barsa have been in fine form, winning multiple medals for Odisha in the 77th Senior National Track Cycling Championship, held last month at Rudrapur in Uttarakhand.

Rourkela ace Swasti bagged the best woman cyclist trophy, bagging three gold and two silver medals at Rudrapur. She also won both of her events at the recent National selection trial. Employee of Odisha Mining Corporation, Swasti has the reputation of winning four international medals, including one gold, so far.

For Bhadrak cyclist Barsa, this will be her first international competition. She has been honing her skill at the SAI National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati, Assam. Barsa claimed one gold, one silver and one bronze at the last Track National in Rudrapur and three gold at the Khelo India University Games in Jaipur two months back.

Speaking on her expectations at the upcoming Asia Cup, Swasti, who trains at the SAI National Centre of Excellence in Patiala, said: “This will be a good opportunity to know where I stand at the continental level now. I will try my best to win a medal, which is sure to boost my confidence for the bigger test ahead – the Asian Track Cycling Championship to be held in the Philippines two months later.”

Barsa said she was excited to make her international debut. “I have performed consistently well throughout 2025. I will try to make my state and the country proud at the Asia Cup in Chennai,” stated Barsa.
