Natl Inter-State Sr Athletics: Odisha bag 3 medals on Day-2
25 Jun 2026

Host Odisha won three medals on the second day of the 65th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar today. The three medals include one gold, one silver and one bronze. With woman hurdler Pragyan Prasanti Sahu claiming one bronze on the opening day, the total number of medals for Odisha has increased to four.

The first gold for Odisha was captured by Chhattisgarh-born sprinter Animesh Kujur in mens 200m run, clocking 20.74 seconds. But the timing was below his personal best of 20.32 seconds, which is a National record. Animesh, however, secured a ticket for the Asian Games to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan from September 19 to October 4 this year.

The qualification mark for the Asian Games was 20.88 seconds. A star trainee of Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics HPC, Bhubaneswar, Animesh has already qualified for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games to be held next month, in both 100m and 200m.

Odisha enjoyed a double delight as Dondapati Mrutyam Jayaram won the silver medal for the host State with a time of 20.97 seconds. The bronze of the day for Odisha was pocketed by Jashbir Nayak in mens decathlon with a total of 7131 points.

Performance of Jashbir in the 10-part decathlon featured 10.31s in 100m dash, 6.55m in long jump, 12.62m in shot put, 1.98m in high jump, 51.10s in 400m run, 15.61s in 110m hurdles, 36.39m in discus throw, 4.30m in pole vault, 60.18m in javelin throw and 4:49.23s in 1500m run.

But Odisha woman Olympian Srabani Nanda, who was supposed to compete in 200m dash, chose to skip the event. Hopefully, the star sprinter will be seen in action in womens 100m dash and 4x100m relay.
