Odisha Candidate Master (CM) Sattwik Swain won the bronze medal in the U-10 open blitz event of the 28th Asian Youth Chess Championships at COLI Hotel in Shenzhen, China yesterday. He scored 7.5 points out of a possible nine with seven wins, one loss and one draw.

Kazakhstan pair of Nurshin Nurali and Elemes Nurmukhamed won the gold and silver medal with eight and 7.5 points respectively. In fact, three players tied for the second position with 7.5 points each.

However, on the basis of Buchholz tie-break score, Nurmukhamed claimed the silver medal, while Sattwik settled for the bronze. Guo Ziming finished fourth with 7.5 points.

The Asian Youth Chess Championships, featuring competition in three events (standard, rapid and blitz) took place from 17 to 24 July 2026. Sattwik finished 19th in the standard event, garnering six points from nine rounds. He won four, lost four and drew one.

In the eight-round rapid event, Sattwik finished 24th with five points. He won five games and suffered defeats in three. Asian Youth bronze is the seventh international medal for Bhubaneswar boy Sattwik since July 2024.

Student of DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, Sattwik has the reputation of securing one silver and two bronze in FIDE World Cadets Cup/Championships and another one silver and two bronze in Commonwealth Youth Chess Chess Championship.
