Bhubaneswar girls and Bargarh boys emerged champions in the U-14 Inter District Football Tournament for the Chief Minister Trophy 2026, which concluded at Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela today. In the finals, Bhubaneswar girls beat Keonjhar 1-0, while Bargarh boys edged out Jajpur by identical margin.
The champion teams received a prize of Rs 1 lakh each, while the runners-up sides took home Rs 75,000 each. Sakuntala Sinku (Bhubaneswar) and Puja Oram (Keonjhar) were given Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 as the Player of the Final and Player of the Tournament respectively in the girls competition.

In the boys competition, Rohan Suna (Bargarh) bagged the Player of the Final prize of Rs 10,000. The Player of the Tournament award, carrying Rs 15,000 was pocketed by Laxman Majhi (Jajpur).
The tournament was organised by the Football Association of Odisha (FAO), in association with the Department of Sports & Youth Services (DSYS), Government of Odisha. According to press release from FAO, the tournament, which was organised under the vision of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, emerged as a landmark initiative for the promotion and development of grassroots football in the State.
Rourkela MLA Sarada Prasad Nayak, Rourkela ADM Dheenah Dastageer, DSYS Deputy Director Sudipta Naik, FAO & joint secretary Avijit Paul and Biswaranjan Gharaei, and Sundargarh District Athletic Association secretary Prabhat Bhol were emong guests and dignitaries who handed over the trophies and prize money.
Earlier Zonal tournaments were held in four zones -- Sundargarh, Ganjam, Balangir and Bhubaneswar from June 1 to 7. Before district level tournaments, featuring local football clubs and schools, took place from April 10 to 18 in Angul, Bolangir, Bargarh, Boudh, Cuttack, Deogarh, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Koraput, Sundergarh, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Bhubaneswar.
