MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS:

NATIONAL:

*     Won 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medal at the 7th National Para Archery Championship, held in Patiala, Punjab, in 2026.
*     Won the women compound open Silver medal in para-archery competition of the 2nd Khelo India Para Games at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi on 23 March 2025.
*     Won 2 Gold medals at the 6th National Para Archery Championship, held in Jaipur, Rajasthan on 11-12 January 2025. Defeated 2024 Paris Paralympics medalist and her idol Sheetal Devi in Compound Round.

INTERNATIONAL:
*     Won 2 Gold medals (both womens compound individual and team events) at the World Archery Para Series, held in Bangkok, Thailand from 30 March-4 April 2026. Beat idol and Paralympic medallist Sheetal Devi in the individual final 139-136.
*     Won the Bronze medal in the U-21 women compound team event at the Asian Youth Para Games, held in Dubai from 7-14 December 2025.


OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
*     She is the only archer of the world without any hand or leg.
*     Payal is also a talented artist and draws with her mouth.
*     As an artist, she won prizes at block and district level competitions.
*     Impressed with her art, the State Government provided her with high-end robotic limbs.
*     She underwent fitment process at the Advance Rehabilitation Centre in Bhubaneswar.
*     Her parents are migrants labourers.
*     Payal lost all her four limbs at the age of eight due to electocution, which occured in April 2015 when she stepped on a live wire while playing.
*     Due to the mishap, which occured in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, doctors had to ampute both her legs and hands.
*     At the time of the accident, the five-member family of Payal was working at a brick kiln in Raipur.
*     She stayed at childcare institution, Parbatigiri Balniketen in Balangir for her education and nutrition from 2019 to 2022.
*     After knowing her talent in art, archery coach Vedwan took Payal to Katra in 2022 and trained her as a para archer at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Archery Academy.
*     Elder sister Barsha plays a major supporting role in the daily life of Payal.
