DESCRIPTION:
*     For the first time, the Asian Games are being co-hosted in two cities; the Indonesian capital of Jakarta (which is hosting the Games for the first time since 1962), and Palembang, the capital of the South Sumatra province.
*     The opening and closing ceremonies of the Games will be held at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta.
*     This Games will feature a total of 462 events in 40 disciplines, making it the second-largest programme in Asian Games history.
*     For the first time in Asian Games history, eSports and canoe polo will be contested as a demonstration sport in the Games.
*     Six video game titles will be featured in the event.
*     eSports will be a medal event at the 2022 Asian Games.

INDIA AT ASIAN GAMES:
*     India has bagged a total of 139 gold, 178 silver and 299 bronze for a total of 616 medals in the Asian Games since its inception in 1951.
*     India hosted the Games twice at New Dehi in 1951 and 1982.
*     India won the highest number of 65 medals (14 gold, 17 silver, 34 bronze) in the 2010 Asian Games at Guangzhou, China.
*     India won more than 51 medals in the Asian Games on six occasions _ 65 (2010), 57 (1982, 2014), 53 (2006), 52 (1962), 51 (1982).
*     Rank-wise India achieved its best at the inaugural Games in Delhi, finishing overall second with 51 medals.
*     India won a maximum of 11 gold medals in the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing, China.

INDIA AT ASIAD HOCKEY COMPETITION:
*     India has won a total of 19 medals _ 4 gold, 10 silver, 5 bronze _ in field hockey since it was introduced in Asian Games in 1958.
*     Women’s competition in field hockey was introduced in 1982 Asian Games in Delhi.
*     Indian men’s hockey team has so far won 3 gold (1966, 1998, 2014), 9 silver (1958, 1962, 1970, 1974, 1978, 1982, 1990, 1994, 2002) and 2 bronze (1986, 2010) in Asian Games.
*     Indian women’s hockey team has hitherto won one gold (1982), one silver (1998) and 3 bronze (1986, 2006, 2014) in Asian Games.

ASIAD HOCKEY MEDALLIST OF ODISHA:
*     Hockey players from Odisha have helped India win 2 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.
*     5 male (Dilip Tirkey, Lazarus Barla, Ignace Tirkey, Prabodh Tirkey, Birendra Lakra) and 7 female (Jyoti Sunita Kullu, Binita Xess, Subhadra Pradhan, Deep Grace Ekka, Sunita Lakra, Namita Toppo, Lilima Minz) hockey players from Odisha have the distinction of winning medals for India in Asian Games
*     Dilip Tirkey and Jyoti Sunita Kullu have the credit of winning more than one Asiad medal.
