DESCRIPTION:
*     Five teams – Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz _ will compete in the inaugural edition.
*     Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium (both in Mumbai) will host the tournament
*     Players auction took place on February 13 in Mumbai.
*     Star India batter Smriti Mandhana was the top buy at the players acution as she was sold for INR 3.40 crore to Royal Challengers Bangalore.
*     Team India Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was sold to Mumbai Indians for INR 1.80 crore.
*     Among the foreign players, Australia all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner and England all-rounder Natalie Sciver-Brunt were the top buys as they were sold to Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians for INR 3.20 crore respectively.
*     From the India U-19 stars, ICC U19 T20 World Cup winning captain, Shafali Verma was the top buy, sold to Delhi Capitals for INR 2 crore.
*     With the five teams fetching Rs 4,669.99 crore and the BCCI selling the media rights for Rs 951 crore, the WPL became the second biggest T20 League in the world behind the Indian Premier League (IPL).
*     Apart from three IPL team owners _ Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals _ Capri Global Holdings (Lucknow) and the Adani Sportsline have bought the five franchises.
*     Around 1,500 players, including seven from Odisha, have registered for the league.
*     Each team will have a purse of Rs 12 crore at the players auction and will need to buy a minimum of 15 players and maximum of 18.
*     Up to five overseas players, including one from an associate member, will be allowed in the playing eleven.
*     A total of 22 games will be played in the inaugural season with the top-ranked team in the league stage qualifying directly for the final.
*     The second and third placed teams will battle out for a place in the final.
*     The Eliminator will be played at the DY Patil Stadium on March 24.
*     The Final will be played at the Brabourne Stadium on March 26.
